Through his friendship and correspondence with scientific leaders such as Juan NegrIn of Spain and Otto Loewi of Austria, Cannon very early saw the rising danger of fascism too. In 1930, while Cannon was serving as an exchange professor in France, he motored with the members of his family to Spain to visit some of his colleagues and former students. At Madrid, the professor of physiology and acting dean of the medical school was Juan NegrIn (Fig.
